Artist Cy Twombly died Tuesday in Rome at the age of 83. Noted for his large scale abstract works that refused to fit neatly into any of the major art movements of his time, Twombly became one of the leading artists of the post-Abstract Expressionist era.
I recently saw an installation of his work while visiting the Philadelphia Museum of Art and was struck by the power of the work.
I would love to find a good biography of the artist – please leave any recommendations in the comments, along with your thoughts on Twombly’s work.
