Our First Sale out of Xanadu 2!

It took a couple of days, but I’m happy to report our first sale in our new space! Scottsdale boasts one of the longest standing art walks in the country – for over 40 years, we’ve held it every Thursday evening during the season. It can be very busy during the fall, winter and spring. This last Thursday was a little slower than usual due to a cold front moving through, dropping temperatures into the low 60s.

Late Thursday afternoon I had a couple from Portland, OR come through the new space and fall in love with the work of Guilloume. I spent some time visiting with them and sharing stories about the artist and his work. There was a particular sculpture that they seemed to fall in love with. I made an attempt to close the sale, but they said they wanted to visit a few other galleries before deciding.

A few hours later, as art walk was beginning, the couple returned to look at the piece again and I was able to help them make the purchase. It was fun to see how excited they were about the piece, and it was exciting to get our first sale in the new gallery.

Below is a photo of the piece as well as images of the gallery with artwork hung. We’ve filled the gallery with work from our backup inventory, but I’m looking to augment this work with 3-5 additional artists. If you are interested in being considered for the space, please submit your work using the link below.

  1. Hi, Jason, Congratulations on Xanadu II! I’ve been enjoying your posts, bought your book, Starving to Successful, and share your ideas with other members of our small “gallery without walls.” (We had a bricks-and-mortar gallery for 9 years in the Catskills of New York, but had to close a couple of years after the economic melt-down. We now go to art/craft fairs and have a website which is in the process of being revamped.)

I’m a fiber artist — do you ever show fiber? Buff McAllister

  2. How excellent! Xanadu 2 is wonderful space and looked very inviting when I stopped in on Friday. I’m happy that you were able to get the basics done so quickly. Nothing really surprises me when I see how nice the results are. You are off to a great future. HS

  3. Jason, I have no doubts that Xanadu 2 will be a success for you and your family. I have watched you for over 5 years now put in so much work on building your business by educating yourself and others along the way on what it takes to make a successful art business. It can’t do anything else but succeed with that type of dedication, motivation and knowledge. Congrats on your first sale and the many others to follow. You made the right decision at the right time. That is hard to do and takes a lot of courage to take that leap of faith. I hope I can be part of that in some way in the future.

  4. Hi Jason,
Congratulations on the launch of your new gallery site. Wishing you all the best, as you have wished all of the artists you’ve had involvement with. And you’ve given us the tools to succeed. I’m very happy for you!

  5. Congratulations! A great ice breaker to get things rolling in your new space. I agree with all of Joyce’s words, I couldn’t have said it better. Your hard work and dedication to the field is amazing and we all appreciate our efforts to help artists.

  6. Congratulations Jason on your new expansion! I’m sure it will do well, wishing you the best. We’ve had our “own” businesses in the past and I know how much hard work you put in to it. You’ll do great!

  7. It has been said that the shinier the floors and the whiter the walls, the more prestigious the gallery. Looks like Xanadu 2 is right up there with the big boys!

If it were mine, I would have been tempted to name it “Xanatwo”. 😎

  8. hi jason, CONGRATS on your first sale at your second gallery!!! Photos show us how awesome everything looks . . . Best wishes!!!

  10. Congratulations! This is absolutely wonderful! While the internet is a great thing, mortar and brick are still better. I think people will always enjoy “the real thing”.
Wishing you success and all the best!

  11. Jason, I appreciate how you shared that your whole family pulled together to achieve something wonderful. Your kids learned an important lesson they probably won’t soon forget….things rarely just fall in your lap…you have to work pretty darn hard to turn a dream into a reality…and I bet that first sale really felt good to all of you.

  12. Jason, Best wishes to you an your family for continued success in the gallery business. I have been in your original location several times and you run a welcoming, first class operation with a wonderful stable of top notch artists. It is great news to hear positive news in growth of any art business and the new place looks great. Thanks for the opportunity to submit. Blessings!

  13. Congratulations on first sale in the new gallery, Jason! First one is always exciting and it happened definitely because of your professional work with couple.
