Like a visual symphony, Gove’s creations sing with the interplay of light and shadow, the dance of flora and fauna, and the vast spectrum of human emotions. Each piece becomes a catalyst for dialogue, delving into topics that resonate deeply with her heart.
Gove’s oeuvre has recently delved into the realms of disability, Alzheimer’s, and social movements. Her artistic sensibilities are also shaped by the scars left by natural disasters, such as Hurricane Sandy, and her concerns about climate change and pollution. By weaving these multifaceted issues into her artwork, Gove invites her audience to plunge into the depths of her complex and captivating world.
Beyond the superficial, Gove’s artistry unravels the intricate relationships and connections that constitute our existence. It speaks the language of the unspeakable and breathes life into the passion and inspiration that art can ignite. As Gove herself explains, “I seek to share my experiences with the world and get them outside my head. I want to share my passion for art and create a dialogue about the issues that matter.”
Born in the sun-kissed landscape of Southern California, Gove grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature and the steady rhythm of her father’s work as a civil engineer. From days spent at the beach to weekends immersed in the wilderness of Silverado Canyon, Gove’s upbringing fostered her introspective nature and love for learning.
Gove’s artistic journey is a testament to her perseverance and unwavering dedication to her craft. Despite initial setbacks and a lack of support for her creative aspirations, Gove navigated her way through various roles before finally enrolling at Santa Ana College. It was there that she earned her Associate of Arts degree in history and discovered the transformative power of drawing.
Gove’s pursuit of art led her to UCLA and, eventually, the University of California, Irvine, where she earned her B.A. in studio art under the tutelage of renowned art historian Phil Leider and contemporary artists Jerry Anderson, Tony Delap, Craig Kauffman, and printmaker John Paul Jones. She was unwavering in her commitment to her artistic journey, even choosing to live out of her pickup truck for a year to continue pursuing her passion. Gove later received her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of California, Irvine, two years after earning her B.A. from the same institution.
Gove’s artistic evolution continued as she relocated to New York, where she studied at the prestigious Art Students League of New York under the tutelage of Ephraim Rubenstein, Michael Burban, and Mary Beth McKenzie. Today, Gove’s creative sanctuary resides in the Leonardo section of Middletown, New Jersey, where the vibrant energy of New York City melds with the serenity of the Jersey Shore, and the rivers and forests embrace the Atlantic Ocean.
Gove’s artistic process is an intimate dance between thought and action. From initial sparks of inspiration captured in quick sketches or photographs to the gradual refinement of ideas in her sketchbook, Gove’s creations take shape with careful consideration. Through a combination of representational and abstract elements, she crafts a visual language that captures the essence of her subject matter.
Drawing serves as the backbone of Gove’s work, whether from life, photographs, or memory. Her photo collage pieces follow a strict set of guidelines that result in mesmerizing patterns and poignant reflections on the transient nature of time.
